Make-up Trend: Smudgy Eyeliner
On the latest issue of Vogue India, Katrina Kaif looked grungy chic with smudgy eyeliner all around her eyes. Smudging the line after you apply it can work to create a lived-in feel, but is also difficult to perfectly execute. Next time you try the look, dip a cotton swab in eye makeup remover and gently dab it along your top and bottom lashlines. Then top with liner, allowing the outward flick of the cat-eye shape to line up with the tail of your eyebrow. The remover step may seem counter-intuitive, but makeup artists swear it's a fail-safe way to create a diffuse, nonrigid line.

Make-up Trend: Petal Pink Cheeks
At the unveiling of her latest cover on Filmfare, Katrina Kaif went the natural route: Flawless skin, minimal eyes, and a delicate burst of color on her cheeks. Peach-based shades will give you a sun-kissed glow, but a faint pink shade can have just as much impact. Keep your face bare and swirl a peony hue on the apples of your cheeks. A swipe of pink lip gloss on the lips will keep the look from feeling too plain.

Make-up Trend: Lavender Lips
On the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar Katrina Kaif complemented her Dior dress with shiny lavender lip gloss. Makeup artist Mickey Contractor used a full coverage lipstick, but topped it with shimmery lavender lip gloss. "I highlighted the lips with the gloss without overdoing it," he said. "They emphasized the colors in her eye makeup."

Kajol for Olay Total Effects
After Sushmita Sen and Katrina Kaif, Kajol has now been signed as an Olay ambassadress. I think she looks stunning in the new ads. Your thoughts? Who's your favorite of the three?

Make-up Trend: Kohl-Rimmed Peepers
In her latest movie Raajneeti, Katrina Kaif shows off some simple and sexy kohl-rimmed peepers. If you want to go for this sultry look in the summer months, you have two choices to keep it from melting in the heat: work a dab of eyelid primer along your top and bottom lashline before applying, or set the makeup with a sweep of translucent powder when you're finished. Both techniques will keep your liner right where you want it.

Make-up Trend: Greenish-Brown Smoky Eyes
In an upcoming issue of Filmfare, Katrina Kaif's sexy smoky eyes make us green with envy. "Katrina wears some neutrals, so I wanted to smoke up the eyes a bit to add some glamour," said make-up artist Mickey Contractor. Rather than opting for traditional black and gray shadow, he layered a blend of bronze and forest green hues, rimmed the eyes in a bronzy eyeliner, and finished with a few swipes of mascara.

Make-up Trend: Warm Blush
As we approach the beginning of summer, our make-up changes as well. On the latest issue of Femina Katrina Kaif sizzled in a rich, skin warming blush. Pink cheeks are cute, but for a healthier, more neutral flush, go with a blush with brown or peach undertones. It works like a bronzer to bring out the natural color in your skin.

Make-up Trend: A Glammed-Up Evening Look
At the recent Nakshatra Vivaah Collection launch Katrina showed off some subtle smoky eyes, perfectly highlighted cheeks and some glossy lips. To get her look, start off with using a small, fluffy brush, blend a peachy-pink eye shadow across your lids, apply a pearly nude eye shadow on your brow bones and blend the two together. Apply black eyeliner along your upper lids only. Layer on black mascara. Apply the same peachy-pink eye shadow in your lower lash lines, to really open up your eyes. Rub a peachy cream blush on the apples of your cheeks and top your cheekbones with a pearlescent highlighter. Apply a rosy-nude lipgloss to get glossy and plump lips like Katrina's.

Make-up Trend: Lilac Cheeks and Lips
Chosen as the newest face to represent Lux Purple, Katrina Kaif sported some lilacy-feminine makeup at a recent photoshoot. To create her look, layer a moisturizing pink-lilac lipstick on the your lips—and on your cheeks. The key point is as long as your lipstick formula is creamy and soft, not dry, it will double as a cheek stain. Dab it on the apples of your cheeks and blend with your fingers for a natural, girlish flush.

Make-up Trend: Brown Smoky Eyes
For the Harper's Bazaar India Anniversary issue, Katrina Kaif sports some fierce brown smoky eyes with dewy skin and nude lips. To replicate the look, sweep bronze eye shadow over your lids, apply gray eye shadow around the inner corners of your eyes. Line your upper and lower lash lines with a creamy eye liner, and add mascara. Use a cream peachy-bronze blush and buff a beige highlighter on top. To finish off, apply a creamy nude lipstick.

Femina Magazine has decided on the following ladies to be on their 50 Most Beautiful Woman Issue: Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor. All four of them look absolutely stunning on their respective covers. One thing they all have in common is gorgeous skin. To get your skin to look as fresh in the winter as well, blend a dab of moisturizer with a dose of tinted moisturizer. You'll get an even and subtle application, and a much needed glow.Rec: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream; Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer

Make-up Trend: A Winter Glow
It might be December, but on the latest issue of Filmfare, Katrina Kaif sports a midsummer's glow. Rather than applying your bronzer just on the apples of your cheeks, dust it over the highest points of your face like the center of your forehead, bridge of your nose, and middle of your chin. Because that's where the sun hits naturally, in turn making your tan look real.Rec: Benefit Dallas

Make-up Trend: Smooth, Moisturized Skin
When your skin looks as healthy as Katrina Kaif's did at the Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani premiere, there's nothing else needed to be done to get noticed. Well-nourished skin is more eye-catching and the best part is it's not difficult to achieve. Apply lotion directly after the shower, but don't towel-off too much—damp skin will act like a sponge and retain more moisture.Rec: Philosophy Hope in a Jar

Make-up Trend: Coral-Rose Lips
With skin so flawless, dark brown eyes, and free flowing waves in her hair, Katrina Kaif could not look more ethereal on November's issue of Vogue India. But instead of going for the soft pink lips she's usually spotted with, Katrina's make-up artist Subhash Singh opted for a coat of a warmer, rosier shade—which hit just the right note of sophistication. To try the look, choose a gloss with slight orange or beige undertones.Rec: Chanel Coral Reef Glossimer

M.A.C Senior Artist Vimi Joshi: Behind The Scenes
Lipstick and kajal are so yesterday. Makeup's now an art form that can transform you. It's governed by trends and let's admit it, Bollywood would not be half as glamorous if it were not for the magic of makeup. M.A.C Senior Artist Vimi Joshi, gives us the lowdown on the makeup secrets of her famous clientele, what it's like behind the scenes at a fashion show and what are the latest trends to adopt. On the sets
The look in Bollywood is classic. Actors work under harsh lights and the camera misses nothing, so the makeup has to be flawless and needs touching up and refreshing often. However, most actors want to look like themselves onscreen, preferring smoky eyes and nude lips.
Backstage at a fashion show
To the untrained eye, the buzz around most fashion shows seems similar gorgeous models slip into fabulous dresses while the glitterati take their seats in the front row. But Vimi says that each fashion capital has its own unique vibe. "It really depends on which city you are in. New York is arty and there are many celebrities. London is edgier. Milan is sexy and Paris is sophisticated."
If you have been backstage at a fashion show, you will see makeup artists frantically working on models with clockwork precision. This is courtesy many trials and rehearsals. It's the entire team, comprising the designer, hairdresser, stylist and the makeup artist who work on the look. However, Vimi says that it's finally the designer's vision. She says, "There is so much creativity. Once we might be doing a geisha, the next time a Marilyn Monroe, then an Audrey Hepburn."
But it isn't all peachy when you have tired models and a stressed-out designer going hysterical. "You just breathe and pray and keep your cool. But if no one yelled, it would not be Fashion Week." she says. What also helps is that Vimi does a two-minute aromatherapy facial massage on all the models to calm them, after which they "melt in my hands".
Looks you can try out
The 80s are back with a vengeance. But you don't have to copy their makeup brush stroke for brush stroke. Be tactful and employ what is now being called Punk Couture. Vimi says, "This look is inspired by punk rockers, but is more edgy, glamorous and sophisticated. It's more punk perfection. Couture means tailor-made. So take this look and adapt it to your face." This look is all about strong eyes that scream attitude. Smudge the kajal or eye shadow to get that sultry smoky look.
To replicate the next trend, turn to the Hollywood red carpet. All the beauties strutting their stuff have perfect, almost glowing skin. For this, you need perfectly hydrated skin so use a water-based moisturiser. Pick a foundation closest to your skin tone and finish off with a light pink blush on for that sweet-girl blush and a light layer of lip-gloss. Jennifer Lopez is a great reference, as her makeup is minimal to highlight her glowing skin.
For the festive season
Festivities have begun. Navratri, Diwali and the wedding season will soon be around the corner. With every look that you change, you must make sure your makeup changes accordingly. Vimi suggests you celebrate your Indianness. "I travel around the world and Europeans are spending thousands on buying products for an ideal skin tone. Look for inspiration in the Indian textures and colors." For the festive season, mix matte and shimmer so you don't overdo either. You could have a shimmer eye shadow with a matte finish one applied into the crease of the eyelid, hence pushing forth the shimmered eyelid. Use colors from your outfit in your makeup as well.
Starry eyes: Vimi on her famous clientele
Freida Pinto: Vimi says, "I love her. I have worked with her a couple of times and she is one of the nicest, most down-to-earth people I've met. We first worked together on a photo shoot and then for the Toronto and Dubai film festivals (above). We started off with the nude look, but then got creative. She is open to new looks and ideas."

Bipasha Basu: "We did the Harper's Bazaar shoot with her in London and she was incredible. First we did a nude-gold look and then she said, 'Come on, let's get creative.' So we looked at the clothes and settled on this forest-murky-green look. Bipasha is constantly pushing the creative boundaries."
Dita Von Teese: "With her, you know you are going to be doing the pale skin and red lips; the 1950s look. But the key is that you retain her image."
Amitabh Bachchan: "He is such a gentleman. I met him backstage at an awards function. He literally needed just a touch-up."
Helen: "I love her. She is a beauty icon for India. She does her makeup herself. Helen is a beautiful woman inside out. Her makeup is more subdued and natural now."
Vidya Balan: "I see her for who she is. She is one of the most spiritually grounded women I have met. I love working with her. We actually did a green and blue look for her for a newspaper and she loved it."Tuesday, September 15, 2009
Cosmo's Celeb Beauty Tricks for that Perfect Pick-Me-Up
"However lousy I’m feeling, getting my hair done makes all the difference. A good blow dry and my confidence is back. And if there’s time after that for a little retail therapy, of course, then it’s perfect!"
"I think a good complexion can hide many sins! So good skin, maintained with good quality products, works for me every time!"
"I’m a very no makeup person off camera, so on days I feel dull, I just up my intake of water, fresh fruits and generally try and detoxify. What you put in is what you get!"
"Smoky eyes perk me up, even on my most down and off days. The rest of the face is just nude lips and a blush."
"I’m a spa girl. A relaxing massage, hot oil treatment, aromatherapy, body scrub, I could just go on and on! Leave me at a spa and watch all my blues evaporate away."
"False eyelashes! Sounds strange but they make me face the work a little more confidently on days I’m low or feeling down. And some perfume goes a long way, too!"
"It’s awful for us to have bad-mirror days because it carries forward the next day, when we see horrid pictures of us in the paper. So if I’m not looking or feeling my best, I simply give some TLC to my skin. Maybe a mask, a facial or even a body wrap if there’s time. If my skin glows, I’m good to go."
"If my skin feels dull, or I’m feeling low, I hit the gym or do anything that’s physically strenuous. Exercise equals endorphins and these feel-good hormones look good on your face. Top it off with a little gloss and you’re back to glowing!"
"On days I’m not looking good, I just pile on kohl to make my eyes stand out, moisturize intensely and head out. No more makeup for me!"
