"However lousy I’m feeling, getting my hair done makes all the difference. A good blow dry and my confidence is back. And if there’s time after that for a little retail therapy, of course, then it’s perfect!"
"I think a good complexion can hide many sins! So good skin, maintained with good quality products, works for me every time!"
"I’m a very no makeup person off camera, so on days I feel dull, I just up my intake of water, fresh fruits and generally try and detoxify. What you put in is what you get!"
"Smoky eyes perk me up, even on my most down and off days. The rest of the face is just nude lips and a blush."
"I’m a spa girl. A relaxing massage, hot oil treatment, aromatherapy, body scrub, I could just go on and on! Leave me at a spa and watch all my blues evaporate away."
"False eyelashes! Sounds strange but they make me face the work a little more confidently on days I’m low or feeling down. And some perfume goes a long way, too!"
"It’s awful for us to have bad-mirror days because it carries forward the next day, when we see horrid pictures of us in the paper. So if I’m not looking or feeling my best, I simply give some TLC to my skin. Maybe a mask, a facial or even a body wrap if there’s time. If my skin glows, I’m good to go."
"If my skin feels dull, or I’m feeling low, I hit the gym or do anything that’s physically strenuous. Exercise equals endorphins and these feel-good hormones look good on your face. Top it off with a little gloss and you’re back to glowing!"
"On days I’m not looking good, I just pile on kohl to make my eyes stand out, moisturize intensely and head out. No more makeup for me!"

Celina Jaitley's Beauty Secrets
So what's your beauty routine?Yoga is a huge part of it as it always brings a glow to my face! I wash my face with plain water many times a day and every night I do the basic CTM. For hair, I get regular salon treatments and oil massages and I avoid coloring it.
Skincare brands you always stock up on?
Neutrogena! It really does wonders for me.
And hair gets special attention too?
Absolutely! I love to go to Hakim Aalim for treatments when I can. I'm hooked on L'oreal's Hair Spa Treatments, plus their shampoos and conditioners. Other faves are Parachute Advanced Hot Oil, Biotique's Henna Hair Pack.
Your first makeup memory?
At a kathak recital at an inter-school competition, I was playing the part of a peacock. The school had organized makeup artists who took 20 minutes to paint my face and I looked horrible! However I loved the blue green eye shadows they used on my eyes.
Party vs. weekend... How different is your makeup?
Quite different. I am very natural and chilled on weekends, I use lots of kohl. A spray blush and transparent lipgloss with freshly-washed hair left to air dry is what I like. For parties, I like to use Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Charcoal, I use it as kajal and liner, and smudge it madly. For my face, I use a tiny bit of mineral powder by Bare Escentuals or L'oreal Bare Naturale Mineral Makeup. Lips are usually nude; mostly base with a liner and gloss.
Beauty products we'll always find on you?
My large kohl and kajal collection from practically every brand-I can't live without it. Plus, a translucent lip gloss!

Make-up Trend: Smudgy, Smokey Eyes
Celina Jaitley displays the perfect amount of smokiness with black and brown eye shadow. To create the perfect smokey eye with a hint of shimmer and pop, mix the black and brown eye shadows together. Pile on the black eye shadow wet to get the eye shadow really dark and smokey. Go over the crease with a dark brown eye shadow. Make sure to blend any harsh lines. To give it a hint of shimmer add some iridescent sparkle eye shadow to really make your eyes pop.

Make-up Trend: Halfsie Eye Liner
In an ideal world, we all seamlessly finish what we start. Well, we're off the hook when it comes to eye liner. By framing her eye with a thick black line on just the outer half of each eye, Celina Jaitley achieved a fresh-yet-exotic look.To avoid a stark line of demarcation, start the line under each pupil using a freshly-sharpened pencil.

Make-up Trend: Nude and Fresh Make-up
It's usually a challenge to pull off all-over monotone beige without looking like a corpse. But Celina Jaitley shows that adding a hint of pink to lipstick and cheeks brings a blah face from stale to stellar in no time.If your lips have a lot of natural color to them, neutralize the shade with foundation or light-weight concealer before applying lip color.

Make-up Trend: Violet Eyes
Celina Jaitley electrified the runway with her bright purple eye makeup. Instead of going for a full-blown smoky eye, the actress toned it down by accentuating just the lids of her eyes.Keeping makeup light near the inner-eye area brightens your face. Line eyes with a shimmery lavender pencil. Then use a thin eye shadow brush to dab deep violet shadow along the outer half of your upper lid (upper and lower), focusing powder on your outter v, and then flick it for a cat-eye like effect

Bridal Make-up Looks
This post is for all brides to be especially Stars N Rockets! I hope I have given you a wide range of looks for you to experiment with.
The natural look is being opted for by a lot of brides these days, where minimal is the key. “Use fresh flowers and natural elements in the hair, along with natural tones for blushing pink cheeks and lips. The colors for this trend would be pink, peach, lemon, light orange/apricot, and caramel,” advises ace make-up artist Clint Fernandes. Consult with your make up artist before deciding on a color palette though – it all depends on your complexion, after all!
“Vintage style is still big, be it the ‘60s or the ‘20s look. Hints of retro eyeliner, or lips and hair used as single elements in a style, look great. Adding modern elegance with a vintage feel,” enlightens Clint. This could include anything from the curling liner look to an elaborate up-do. You could also ask your make-up artist to use kohl and give you smoldering smoky eyes in keeping with this look as well.
“Gold is very big this season... use it on the eyes, dust it on the body and use gold ornamentation in the hair. Glitter too, is very big this season. Hints of glitter on the eyes along with frosted lips look great.”
Let me tell you that bright colors are really in, too. Indian women have recently started experimenting with their look. The use of pure glazed color like electric violet, fresh green, or aquamarine on the eyes and the emergence of orange tones in lipsticks just goes to prove my point and looks fabulous too! However, the colors chosen should depend on your clothing, jewelery and complexion – otherwise you might just end up looking like a cosmetic factory explosion!
Whoever said that the world is running low on metals needs to peek into any make-up kit – metals are all the rage! “Gold is very big this season... Use it on the eyes, dust it on the body and use gold ornamentation in the hair. Glitter too, is very big this season. Hints of glitter on the eyes along with frosted lips look great. Remember that the shades of frost and glitter should compliment the skin tone and not be off-color. Use metallic shades on the lips if the skin tone is dusky. Shades of copper, bronze and rust look great on darker skin tones,” says Clint.

And lastly, some pointers from celebrity make up artist Doris Godambe…

And lastly, some pointers from celebrity make up artist Doris Godambe…
- For a perfect eye shape, use a small brush to blend a medium tone color from just below the brow arch downwards in a semi-circle motion.
- Choose lip liner that blends easily with lipstick for that soft glossy look that looks good in photographs too.
- Use a powder foundation on the neck as well so that you don't appear to have a painted look.
- Thin and small lips look more sensuous with light lip colors while fuller lips can use deep shades.

Make-up Trend: Pale Pink Lips
Simple, natural-looking glossy lips flatter every complexion—whatever the occasion. You first need to camouflage the pink tones in your lips with foundation before adding color. Otherwise, the final shade can look muddy.Apply lip balm, then pat foundation over lips using a makeup sponge. Next, swipe on an opaque, pale shade and get ready to pucker up!

Make-up Trend: Red Lips

- Pick the right shade of red for your skin tone. If you're pale and pinky, go for blue-reds. If you're olive, tan or dark, warmer reds will flatter you.
- A bold red lip is an easy way to add instant glamour. Get the look by lining and filling lips with lipliner (closely matched or slightly lighter than your lipstick shade). Liner evens out the lip shape and gives a sharp edge. For go liner if you have very full lips. Tap the color onto the lips with your finger so the edge of the lip is soft

- Get clean edges by brushing on concealer after applying lipstick. It will brighten the area and make the red pop while preventing the color from bleeding.
- If you don't have beautiful full lips like Rani Mukherji. Try something more transparent, like a berry-hued gloss.

- Generally speaking, blondes look best in blue reds, redheads in berry reds, and brunettes in brick reds.
- For daytime, a more sheer version is suitable. And then for night, opt for a deeper red to punch it up.

- Women with strong jaw lines should avoid red lipstick, as it will only highlight a prominent area. Rounder faces pull the look off well.
- Makeup pros agree that the best way to apply red lipstick is with a lip brush that you dip in the product and then paint onto the mouth. The brush keeps lipstick within the lines and prevents mistakes Rec: M.A.C 318 Retractable Lip Brush
- Pick four shades you like and swipe them closely together on your inner forearm. Once you see them next to each other, the subtle differences will pop and you'll be drawn to one.
- Nothing looks worse than a bold color on chapped lips. Look for a moisturizing lipstick and use balm at night to treat your pout. Using a lip balm right before applying lipstick will dilute the rich shade. Rec: Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer in Cocoa

Make-up Trend: Browbone Highlighter

Add some oomph to your brows by taking a cue from Celina Jaitley. Sweep pale eye shadow along the base of your eyebrows, from the arch to the end, to brighten the whites of your eyes, add crispness to the line of your brows and highlight your bone structure.
If the rest of your makeup is shimmery, opt for a pale white with a hint of gold eyeshadow along your browbones.

Suck in your cheeks and tilt your head down to find the right spot. Run the brush along the shadow below your cheeks.
