Actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and Freida Pinto will be given new looks by internationally renowned make-up artists as they walk the Cannes Red Carpet this year. From May 11-22, L’Oréal Paris, official make-up artist of the Festival for 14 years, will introduce its first dream team of three make-up artists: Karim Rahman, Billy B and Rie Omoto.

They have created the new ‘L’Or L’Or L’Or’ make-up Collection especially for Cannes, which will be used to design exclusive make-up looks for all the spokeswomen present at the Festival including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and Freida Pinto.  Aishwarya will be sporting interpretations of the ‘L’Or L’Or L’Or’, look by Karim Rahman as she walks the red carpet with Aimee Mullins, Gong Li and Ines de la Fressange on Wednesday.

“Gold is something that inspires me to create an opulent, luxurious, bold make-up look. This is the perfect theme for Cannes and perfect for the strong personalities of the L’Oréal Paris spokeswomen. I want to bring out all their radiant, luminous sensuality,” said Rahman.

Rie Omoto will be creating the L’Or, L’Or, L’Or, look for Sonam Kapoor using gold to highlight, accentuate and emphasize the actor’s features rather than the color itself. Sonam will be walking the red carpet on May 15 with Fan Bing Bing. Rie Omoto said, “Gold is a transformational color that can take a woman from day to night and back again by simple adjustments in its application and blending.”  Freida Pinto’s ‘L’Or, L’Or, L’Or’ look created by Billy B will reflect her radiant beauty as she attends the amfAR dinner and after party on May 19. “Gold is flattering; it reflects light beautifully and makes you immediately luminous and radiant. Gold can be and really should be considered a Classic like the famous and timeless Little Black Dress,” said Billy.

Make-up Trend: Smoky Eye & Bold Lip

Looking unrecognizable on the cover of Verve, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan does a smoky eye & bold lip with utmost perfection. In most cases, it's always best to focus on one feature like a heavy eye or a bold lip, but the combination of the bold smoky eyes, and mauve-pink lips work beautifully. To get her look, rim your top and bottom lashes with a creamy pencil starting just past the inner corners of your eyes. Brush a matte black eye shadow on your lids and then, using an angled shadow brush, apply a thick line along your bottom lashes, covering the liner. Dust a shimmery taupe eye shadow, starting in the crease and blending it up to your brow bone, and apply mascara to the top and bottom lashes. Dust on bronzer in the hollows of your cheeks, going up toward your temples. Apply a mauve-pink lipstick to your lips using a lip brush.

Make-up Trend: Smoky Bronze Eye Shadow

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan shimmered in bronzy hues at the 83rd Academy Awards. To get her smoldering bronzy look, trace the outer corners of the eyes with black pencil, staying as close to the lash lines as possible. Soften lines with a cotton swab, then dust bronze eye shadow on the lids and even a thin rim below the eye. Dab a touch of gold shadow on inner corners and brow bones. Brush on one coat of mascara to top and bottom lashes. Use a large powder brush to apply bronzer on cheekbones, and blend it out to the hairline, make sure to tap or blow excess powder off. Moisturize lips with lip balm, then slick on a nude brown lipstick.

Red-Carpet Ready via Vogue India

With the awards season in full swing, you can’t help but be mesmerized by some stunning beauties that tread the red-carpet with effortless ease. Finding the right outfit for that special night out is of course only half the battle, and what you need is some spectacular make-up to unleash the diva in you. Take a cue from these four lovely ladies who rock the in their glamourous avatars and bring some much needed red-carpet drama to the table. Dick Page, Shiseido’s Make-up Artistic Director, shows us how to shimmer, shine and get red carpet ready.

Notice Katrina’s “shimmering” skin, a signature look on the red carpet. To achieve this, blend an iridescent powder with a matte or satin texture for a look that barely sparkles. Powder your face, neck, décolletage and shoulders. If you have fair skin, opt for the pinks, if its darker, golden beiges are perfect.

Highlight your brow bones and apply a brown or gold cream eye shadow all across your eye lids for a dare-diva look. Nothing spells red-carpet glamour than a scarlet pout done right. Always line your lips with a lip liner to avoid your lip color from bleeding. Look at Freida Pinto for inspiration who does a glossy red mouth which is totally camera ready.

Make-up Trend: Minimal Make-up

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looked brilliant on the latest cover of Vogue India. Letting her Roksanda Ilincic jacket take centerstage, she is seen sporting minimal make-up. To get her look, apply a light brown eye shadow over your eyelids and along the crease up to just below your brow bone. Blend it along the hollow of the crease, extending to the outer corners of your eyes. Curl your upper eyelashes and apply two coats of black, lengthening mascara. Dab lips with a touch of foundation to create a more neutral base. To finish off, apply a rose-beige, matte lipstick.

Make-up Trend: Layered Blue Eyeliner

At the Apsara Awards, make-up artist Mickey Contractor wanted Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's eyes to really pop. He started with applying a creamy black pencil in the inner rims of her eyes. He then layered a blue gel liner (from his latest collaboration with M.A.C Cosmetics) in the lower lash line. It instantly added a boost of color in the most unexpected way, plus, it helped the makeup stay put for hours!

Make-up Trend: Winged Eye Liner & Nude Lips

On the latest issue of Elle India, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan channeled a modern Audrey Hepburn with winged eye liner and nude lips. To get her look, use a black liquid/gel eye liner start at the middle of the lower eyelid, and staying as close to the outer lash line as possible, line eyes all the way to the corner, then extend the liner upward approximately a quarter inch. Trace along the top lash line all the way to the outer corner and finish off the look with mascara. For the lips, apply a nude lipstick on top of a coat of lip balm.

Make-up Trend: Smoke & Sparkle (Vogue India)

This season saw the smokey eye transform into a whole new avatar. Out with the goth matte blacks and in with intense sparkly-smoky eye. “It's disco in a very, very modernized way”, says make-up artist Lucia Pica at Roksanda Ilincic. Whether it’s sexy and smudged at Gucci and Christian Lacroix or heavily charcoaled with metallic finish at Lanvin at Anupama Dayal, we just love this dazzling take on the classic smokey eye.

Get the look: go from bland to glam with this intensely captivating look. Bottle greens, navy blues and deep charcoals are the key to this hot party look. Layer blue or green eye shadow over a matte black base. Sweep sparkling silver eye shadow in the inner corner of your eyes to finish the look. Alternatively, blend some emerald-green shimmer underneath like the models sported at Diane Von Furstenburg or do a full-on smokey with a deep burgundy shadow as seen on the catwalks of Roberto Cavalli. Make a shimmer stick your new BFF and use it on your lower lash line over your usual smoky eye for some heavy duty drama.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's New L'oreal Advertisement

This looks like an ad for a new moisturizer. I think she looks gorgeous, I absolutely love the clean and simple look she's sporting. Your thoughts?

Hair Trend: Bumped-Up Hair

In a still from her new movie Robot, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan swept her hair back for a clean and futuristic look. If you're thinking about getting bangs but are afraid they limit you, get inspired by Ash's style. Gently teasing the roots before brushing them back creates a precise and elegant effect. Hold that style all day with some hairspray, and you're ready to go!

Make-up Trend: Baby Doll Pink Blush

Make-up artists have always taught us that when it comes to blush, it's best to blend, blend, blend. In Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's latest movie Robot, (that explains the crazy headpiece) she shows us there's something alluring about strong pops of color on the center of your cheeks. Rather than sweeping blush upwards along your cheekbones and temples, swirl it heavily along the apples of your cheeks and below. And select a brighter tone than usual—the bold hue will be surprisingly more flattering than you think.

Make-up Trend: Under Eye Smoky Eye

In the pages of the latest issue of Vogue India, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan was seen in an innovative application of eye shadow. Rather than sweeping it across her lids, make-up artist Mickey Contractor kept her eyes neutral and dabbed a metallic slate eye shadow under her bottom lashline with a silvery white shadow in her inner corners. It's simple and smoky in an unexpected and undeniably sexy way!

When Bad Make-up Happens To Good People

Isn't it a coincidence that both Aishwarya and Sonam are L'oreal ambasadresses and both had a WTH moment recently. Sonam, at the launch of the latest issue of Filmfare and Aishwarya on the sets of Robot. Sonam's under eye concealer is cakey, and in an unflattering shade which makes her face look ashy and two-toned. On the other hand, Aishwarya looks awful with those stark lines of brush on her cheeks. I love the smokey eyes, but the 80's harsh and unflattering pink blush has to go!

All in all, both of these ladies are stunning, and do not need that much make-up be it in events or movies.

Your opinions?
