Make-up Trend: Soft Pink Smoky Eyes

At the International India Jewelry Week, Isha Koppikar added a touch of sophistication to her jewelry with some gorgeous smoky eyes. Her smoky eyes were light and ethereal against that fuchsia dress she wore. Rather than blending charcoal hues along your entire lid, keep darker shades below the crease. Top it off by blending a shimmery, neutral shadow—Isha opted for pink-purple eye shadow—all the way up to the crease, and light beige pink on the lids.

Make-up Trend: Sheer Violet Shadow and Plum Lips

Usually I don't like match your eyeshadow to your clothes, but Isha Koppikar changed that make-up no no in a second. She wore a gorgeous Neeta Lulla lehnga—and had coordinating shadow and lips. To try violet colored lids, choose a shimmery formula and apply with your fingertips—the oil from you hands will keep it looking sheer, not heavy. To compliment the lips apply a plummish-brown stain with a coordinating lip gloss.

Vimi Joshi's Make-up Breakdowns

Nude doesn't mean that you wash all makeup off your face, and leave it plain without any. It means makeup so soft, glossy, and shimmery that no one notices you are wearing it. The idea is to look natural yet chic. In fact, most guys say they hate their girlfriends all caked-up! The trick is to use makeup to hide imperfections and to bring out your best features, subtly.

A dollop of moisturizer
Nude is about plump, soft, glossy skin. So moisturizing. Says Vimi Joshi, M.A.C, “I can't stress moisturizing enough. To make your skin look glossy and full of health, just apply a dollop of your favorite moisturizer and smooth it in, till your skin feels dewy!”

A flawless complexion
Stand in front of a brightly lit mirror; scrutinize your face carefully. Skip the foundation to avoid a caked-up look. Go with concealer (M.A.C Select Moisturecover) instead, and using a brush, dab it over each blemish (if any) and blend it in with your fingers. Now, for a soft glow: Use a luminizer (M.A.C Strobe Liquid) and dot it on the areas you would like to highlight, such as cheekbones and brow bones. Apply a soft pink blush (M.A.C Mineral Blush in Dainty) to the apples of your cheeks and apply a bronzer (M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish in Gold Deposit) to the hollows of your cheeks as well as places the sun naturally hits first—your brow bones, nose, and collar bones. For all over radiance, dust the blush lightly onto your forehead, tip of the nose, and chin.

For soulful peepers
A nude look for the eyes to dazzle in the daytime: Kohl-lined eyes with just a plain cream-based eyeshadow base (M.A.C Cream Colour Base in Fawntastic); Pink or beige eyeshadow from the M.A.C Classic Eyes Palette, with mascara (M.A.C Plush Lash Mascara) to open up your eyes dramatically; Soft gold shimmer (M.A.C Goldmine Eye Shadow) on the eyelids, with or without mascara; Soft silver shimmer (M.A.C Silver Dusk Iridescent Loose Powder), with some kohl and no eyeshadow, but softly lined eyes in green, blue, black or gray (M.A.C Minted, Hyacinth, Smolder, Phone Number Eye Kohl).

A nude look to dance the night away
Smoky eyes, but not just in black. Create smoky in different Says Vimi, "Begin with lining your eyes with kohl (M.A.C Smolder Eye Kohl), lower and upper lid, for a dramatic effect. Now add color of your choice to lower lids: Navy, emerald, bronze, purple and of course black (M.A.C Naval, Humid, Espresso, Contrast, Carbon Eye Shadow). Using a Q-tip, the shadow from the outside corner in. For a kissable pout
Pink, beige, golden (M.A.C Lipglass in Nymphette, C-Thru, Instant Gold), use gloss in any of these shades, but keep it soft and shimmery. Dab an extra bit in the middle of your pout to add volume. It will create an illusion of fuller lips and give you that perfect nude look.

Sex appeal is fifty percent what you've got and fifty percent what people think you've got, Isha is postively radiant.

The eyes should be popping! Keep the skin ultra-matte and exaggerate the eyes by extending the contour crease color up onto the brow bone. Then add black liner on the outer corners of the eyes to create a more exaggerated almond shape.

Mickey Contractor Talks Make-Up

Mickey Contractor, the make up man to stars including the lovely Aishwarya Rai, sets about busting some long cherished make up myths.

"What looks best on a woman is always in," he said. "Trends will come and go. Like for instance the bright red/pink lips and cat eye liner of the Seventies is back with a bang. There are three or four trends, which keep rotating. You have the minimalist, the liner-based look and the color centric look. These are shuffled back and forth. You need to pick up what you like and what suits you. Yellow is very hot now."

Mickey, who has worked in movies from Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya to Salaam E Ishq says: "Bollywood has the tendency to go overboard. That is because we wear embellished clothes, and culturally we take great care of our hair. In the process the face tends to get ignored. We need to highlight the face with make up. You must also remember that it is for the big screen and one needs to accentuate features or they will not be seen."

Mickey feels one should not be overawed by make up. "Makeup need not be the whole nine yards. It could be just a bindi and kohl."

Mickey says: "Fluidlines come in a great range of colors, be adventurous."

While kohl qualifies as makeup, Mickey says people are getting more adventurous about color. "I tell them instead of M.A.C Fluidline in Blacktrack, why not try M.A.C Fluidline in Blue Peep? And believe me it is these little things that gives a whole new look."

The makeup artist, who counts screen siren Helen as his inspiration says: "Bollywood is huge reference point. I have brides coming up to me saying they want to look like Kajol or Rani. It helps me as I know what they have in mind."

And talking of brides, what did he do for Ash on her wedding day? "Ash is a personal friend and I dressed her as a friend."

While Ash is a personal friend, Mickey says he has no favorite celebrity clientèle. "I have enjoyed working with everyone. It is very difficult to work in close proximity with someone you do not like."

"The relationship between makeup artist and star is a very intimate one. Bonds build over the years. Imagine, you are thrown together for fifty days on an outdoor, it is the closest one gets to having a confidant, a friend. It is a two-way thing. Even I let off steam."

Mickey's brushes and Fluidline are a staple in his train case

Ask Mickey what he cannot step out without and he says: "My set of M.A.C Brushes. I do not allow anyone to touch them. The one product that is always in my train case is M.A.C Fluidline. It works wonders."

Mickey obviously loves working in Bollywood. "I was fated to be here. I do share my opinion with the directors. With Karan Johar I can tell him what I feel about whether a scene would work or not."

Mickey works according to the personality of the client. "A little bit of groundwork always helps. For someone like Sushmita Sen, I know she has this huge diva personality and I work with that."

Mickey has been associated with M.A.C for the past two years and will work on "customizing foreign trends to suit our needs. I am also involved in master classes where we share knowledge and information."

All fans of fluffy, furry creatures can take heart when Mickey, who loves animals and has a Labrador and parakeet says: "M.A.C products are not tested on animals."

Mickey, whose upcoming projects include Goldie Behl's Drona and Harry Baweja's Love Story 2050, has one bit of advice to give out: "Always do what suits you."

Vogue Make-Up Trend: Cat Eyes

Cat eyes are all the rage of the fall and spring. For a simpler look either line your upper lid or your water line/lower lid. Ash's cat eyes are gorgeous, with her just lining her upper lid. On the other hand Isha goes all the way, by slightly taming and thinning out thickness of the liner.

Make-up Trend: Post Summer Into Fall Tan

Summer might be coming to a close, but that doesn't mean we need to look pale. Sweep bronzer across your hairline and over your cheek, nose, chin and neck to make the look believable.
