Look 1: Bohemian Butterfly

Face

To get this colorful, bohemian look start with a flawless, glowing base. Blend a suitable shade from Lakme’s range of foundations created specially for Indian skin tones. Highlight your eyes with the Earth Rose Blush Trio in Rose Sweeping towards your cheekbones. This will form a warm sheen of color for the flower lace pattern. To create the delicate lace highlight, start by adding some water to the magenta shade from the Silk Route Quartet. Using an applicator or a brush, draw dainty flowers high up on your cheekbone. Use a darker shade of the blush in the hollow of your cheekbone to highlight the contours.Finally use the nude beige or peach shades to add a subtle shine on your forehead, nose and chin.

Use a thin brush or applicator to draw with your eye shadow, just like you would apply eye liner. Start with the magenta shade from the Silk Route Quartet.  Apply a stroke of rich color following the shape of your eyes. Follow it up with a parallel stroke in the gold shade from the Tanjore Rush Quartet. Finish with a stroke of the henna gold shade from the Tanjore Rush Quartet. Keep the lines sharp and do not blend. Sweep your lashes with a coat of velvet black. Apply Lash Artist Mascara in layers.

It all starts with the global trend immersion by the Lakmé team. The selected trends are translated for different types of faces and skin, and sees culmination in a collection that is co-created with the Lakmé Make up Artists and the Lakmé Grand Finale designer. The Lakmé product collection reflects the expertise of the make up artists and the creativity of the designer.   This season, Lakmé is launching the “Gypsy Collection” along with Lakmé Grand Finale designer Malini Ramani. Malini has captured the nomadic influences from around the world to create an inspired collection, perfectly suited for the Indian woman.

Lakmé Grand Finale Designer Malini Ramani said “The Lakmé Gypsy collection is dedicated to the Gypsy within us all. I’ve been involved in the creation of the collection from the initial stages. It’s been a great experience working with the Lakmé team and Cory and Clint.” Clint Fernandes, Lakmé Make-up Expert shares his experiences while developing the collection, “I researched a lot of ethnic communities in detail from around the world and picked out elements that are typical to them yet could be tailored to the contemporary scenario.”   In Cory Wallia’s opinion, the Gypsy collection, like all other Lakmé collections, encapsulates a brand philosophy of delivering world class products customized for the Indian woman.   The palette is in sync with the festive and celebratory mood of the winter season.  The products in the range have are earthy yet vibrant colors and a satin texture.

Make-up Trend: Smoky Eyes with Bright Eyeliner

Looking sexy and summer-ready on the cover of Elle India, Lisa Haydon makes a splash with her smoky-bold eyes, giving the 'ol smoky eyes an unexpected fun twist. Taking a cue from her Shrivan Narresh lime and forest green swimsuit, make-up artist Cory Walia brushed charcoal eye shadow all over lids and lower lash lines. He then used forest green eye shadow as an eyeliner on her top lid and lower lid. To give the look some shimmer he added a frosty white highlight in her crease, on her brow bones, as well as on her lower lids, right under the green eyeliner. He bursh 3-4 coats of mascara on her upper and lower lashes. On her cheeks, Cory applied a soft pink blush. For the lips, he finished off with a soft pink lipstick applied with a lip brush, and a pechy-pink lip gloss applied only in the middle of her lower lip.

Make-up Trend: Sheer Peachy Cheeks

On the latest issue of Harper's India, model Lisa Haydon looks classy and modern. One key note, 'bronzer isn't the only way to brighten up your face during winter'. A powder blush that's more peach than pink will have a similar effect. And be sure to brush on the apples of your cheeks and the bridge of your nose. When you already have a touch of color in your skin, a salmon shade adds more contrast and light than plain 'ol bronzer.

A Day in The Life of M.A.C Senior Artist Vimi Joshi

Backstage buzz, models and performers scrambling to get ready, make-up artists working at a frenetic pace, TV crews streaming in and out, and tables spilling over with bottles, jars and brushes. Hina Oomer-Ahmed experiences a day in the life of Vimi Joshi, senior make-up artist for M.A.C cosmetics at the recent IIFA awards in Bangkok

At 6 pm, the night of the IIFA Fashion extravaganza, Dubai-based senior make-up artiste, Vimi Joshi’s day has barely just begun. A bundle of high-voltage energy, the reporter asked her how she manages to keep on her feet for so many hours and still look like she could go on for another day. “Pure adrenaline” she answers. M.A.C was the official make-up sponsor of the recently held International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) in Bangkok, and heading this endeavor is no easy job, but Vimi manages to make it look effortless, like it’s all in a day’s work. For the IIFA, she leads an entire team of more than 20 talented make-up artists who have come together from all over the world. The models are still doing technical rehearsals, which means less time for Vimi and the team to get more than 30 models flawlessly made up and ready to hit the ramp. But the team is well briefed and prepared for all the chaos. In the end, all the planning of the previous weeks pays off.
However, the real challenge is the day of the IIFA awards where M.A.C does the make-up for Shiamak Davar’s dance troupe which is going to play an integral part in all the performances. Vimi’s team has to create exclusive backstage make-up for 35 performers and 40 presenters at the IIFA Award ceremony to be held at Siam Niramit. Vimi has a long list of award show credentials and is adept at balancing several inputs at once. Her skills are put to good test as she runs out of interview time and we only get to really talk in the van on the way to the event venue. To add to the madness, she needs to run back to the Dusit Thani Hotel in an hour as Deepika Padukone insists that only Vimi do her make up for the big show.
In the few minutes we have to chat, Vimi and I talk about M.A.C’s presence in India, her experiences working with Indian celebrities and the wonders of M.A.C Studio Fix (a powder-based concealer that can cover up virtually anything).
An avid watcher of make-up trends and preferences in India, Vimi notices that, “of late, Indian women have been opening up to doing make-up more natural as opposed to layered and pancake like. They are also agreeable to using softer shades in lip and eye color.”

Recently, Vimi has been working with many young Bollywood stars. “Much of the younger actresses are experimenting with their looks. Sonam Kapoor and I worked closely to come up with a fresh look for her and the feedback she got for it was incredible.”
How is working in the Indian industry different from working in any other part if the world? “Even though I was fully trained, I had to adapt myself to the climactic conditions and learn new ways to make make-up look good in the heat and humidity,” says Vimi.

“In India, we are also working very hard to create awareness about the importance of skincare, the use of moisturizers and the right products to keep the skin hydrated. Mickey Contractor and I have created two foundation shades especially formulated for Indian skin.” As we reach the venue for the big show, Vimi is back to being the ringleader and getting her team ready for the busy evening ahead. She leaves me with the same first and last impression of her – a bundle of boundless energy.
